First Launch – No Internet Required

Opening the app for the first time presents a clean search bar and a grid pattern. No account creation. No tutorial pop-ups. The app asks for nothing except your first clue. Type a word pattern with question marks for missing letters, and the results appear instantly. The offline dictionary loads within seconds. This immediate access is the app's primary selling point. You do not need a data connection to solve a crossword.

The search bar accepts patterns like "c?t" to find "cat" or "cot". Filters let you narrow results by word length or starting letter. A single tap on any result shows its definition. Another tap speaks the word aloud. The copy-to-clipboard button lets you paste the answer into your puzzle app or notes. All of this happens without ever touching a server. The app stores its entire dictionary locally. This makes it useful for commuters, travelers, or anyone in a spotty coverage area.

However, the offline convenience comes with a trade-off. The dictionary is static. It does not update automatically. New words or proper nouns added to popular puzzles may not exist in the app's database. Users have reported that common words like "July" get rejected while obscure plurals pass through. The developer has not released a major dictionary update in years. This creates a gap between what the app knows and what modern crosswords require.

When Offline Meets Online – The Ad Paradox

The app is free because it shows ads. But the ads require an internet connection to load. This creates a strange paradox. You open the app offline to solve a puzzle, but the ad network cannot fetch new ads without data. So the app shows a cached ad or a blank space. Then, when you reconnect, the ads flood in. Full-screen video ads appear between searches. Some ads have fake X buttons that do not close the ad. Others auto-download apps without permission.

Users who pay to remove ads face an even stranger situation. The in-app purchase removes the ads, but reports indicate that ads sometimes reappear after payment. One reviewer wrote: "Despite the fact I have a PAID subscription EVERY time I use app I'm bombarded with ads that you can't exit." The developer's ad network integration appears to have gaps. The purchase receipt is stored locally, but the ad SDK may not always check it. This means the app's core promise – ad-free solving for paying users – breaks down in practice.

The offline dictionary and the ad-supported model are supposed to work together. The dictionary provides utility. The ads provide revenue. But the implementation creates friction. The dictionary is static and outdated. The ads are intrusive and sometimes bypass the payment check. The combination leaves both free and paid users frustrated. Free users face unskippable interruptions. Paid users face broken promises. This tension defines the real-world experience of using this app.

Performance – Fast Solving, Slow Trust

When the app works, it works quickly. Search results appear in under a second. The definition lookup is nearly instant. The text-to-speech feature reads words clearly. The interface is minimal and responsive. There is no lag when scrolling through long word lists. The app does not crash during normal use. These technical strengths have kept the app on users' devices for years.

But the performance issues lie elsewhere. The definition pop-up sometimes disappears before you can read it. Users have reported that the definition "disappears before you have time to read it." This appears to be a timing bug in the UI. The word input field occasionally rejects backspace presses. You type a word, realize you made a mistake, and cannot delete the last letter. The only fix is to clear the entire field and start over. These small bugs accumulate over time.

Compatibility problems also surface. The app requires Android 10.0 or higher on the latest version. Older devices running Android 6.0 to 9.0 are stuck on version 4.0 or earlier. Those versions have more bugs and fewer features. Users on older devices report that the app crashes when searching for long words. The developer has not backported fixes to older versions. This means users with older phones are left with a broken experience and no upgrade path.

Data Encryption and Deletion – The Fine Print

The Play Store listing states that data is encrypted in transit. This means any data sent between the app and external servers is protected. However, the app does not collect any user data. The developer's privacy policy confirms that no personal information is gathered. The app does not request permissions for contacts, location, or storage. It only needs basic network access to load ads. This is a rare privacy win in the word game category.

But there is a catch. The data cannot be deleted. The Play Store listing explicitly states "数据无法删除" – data cannot be deleted. This refers to the app's locally stored dictionary and cache. There is no option to clear the app's data from within the app. You must go to Android settings and manually clear the cache or storage. Even then, the app may recreate the cache on next launch. The dictionary files are baked into the APK. They cannot be removed without root access. This means the app occupies a fixed amount of storage space that you cannot reclaim. The offline dictionary is convenient, but it is also permanent.
