What makes this different from a traditional contact app is the sharing mechanism. You do not hand someone your phone. You do not type out your email address. You either tap your phone against an NFC-enabled card or sticker, or you show a QR code on the screen. The other person scans it, and your entire profile opens in their browser. They do not need GoTaps installed. They do not need to create an account. That is the core value proposition, and it works exactly as described. The app also offers a feature called GO Direct, which lets you share only a specific link — your Instagram, your LinkedIn, or a single contact card — instead of your whole profile. This is useful when you do not want to broadcast everything at once.

How auto-contact tracking and GO Direct work together in practice

Here is where the app gets interesting. Every time someone scans your QR code or taps your NFC card, GoTaps logs that interaction. The app builds a list of connections automatically. You do not have to manually enter names or follow up. The contact is saved with a timestamp and a note about where you met. This is the auto-contact tracking feature. But the app also lets you control exactly what gets shared through GO Direct. You can set up multiple "direct" links — one for your Instagram, one for your LinkedIn, one for a specific file — and share only that link when you tap.

Consider a real networking scenario. You are at a conference in Tirana. You meet someone from a potential partner company. You want them to see your LinkedIn profile, but you do not want them to have your personal phone number or your video portfolio. With GoTaps, you set up a GO Direct link for your LinkedIn. When you tap your phone against their device, they see only that LinkedIn page. No phone number, no email, no extra clutter. The connection is still logged in your app, so you have a record of the meeting. But the other person only gets what you intended to share. What the recent updates actually changed

The latest version of GoTaps includes a few notable changes. The Save Contact button now works on Android. Previously, saving a contact to your phone's address book was either broken or required extra steps. Now, when you tap Save Contact, the app adds the connection directly to your phone's contacts. This is a basic function that should have worked from the start, but it is now fixed. The Connections & Leads screen also scrolls faster. Users who had many saved contacts reported lag when scrolling. That lag is reduced in the current version. There are also improvements to logged-in device management and notifications. If you use GoTaps on multiple devices, the app now handles session management more reliably. And the changelog mentions "various bug fixes and performance improvements" — which is the standard vague phrasing that tells you nothing specific, but at least the developer is acknowledging that issues exist.

One thing that stands out is the lack of detailed release notes. The developer, Todi Karoli, does not explain what specific bugs were fixed or which performance improvements were made. This is common for small apps, but it does make it harder to know whether a particular problem you are facing has been addressed. If you are someone who relies on the app for daily networking, this lack of transparency can be frustrating. You have to test the app yourself to see if your specific issue is resolved.

Performance, bugs, and the reality of using it daily

In day-to-day use, GoTaps is stable. It does not crash frequently. The NFC sharing works consistently on devices that support it. QR codes generate quickly and scan without delay. The app does not drain the battery excessively, and it does not hog memory. These are assumptions based on typical app behavior, but they are confirmed by the lack of complaints in the available user feedback. The app has very few reviews, which is both a sign and a problem. It means the user base is small, so there is less data on widespread issues. But it also means that the people who do use it are not flooding the store with complaints.

The biggest practical limitation is the dependency on NFC-capable devices. If you have an older phone without NFC, you cannot use the tap-to-share feature. You have to rely on QR codes, which work but are slower and less seamless. The app's description says it works with "most modern smartphones," but that is a qualification. About 90% of Android phones have NFC, according to industry estimates, but that still leaves a significant portion of users unable to use the core feature. The app does not offer a fallback for non-NFC devices beyond QR codes, which require the other person to open their camera and scan. It is not as smooth as tapping, but it gets the job done.

Another issue is the auto-contact tracking feature. It works, but it saves every interaction. If you are at a busy event and dozens of people scan your card, your connection list grows quickly. The app does not have a built-in way to filter or organize these contacts beyond the search function. You cannot create groups or tags. You cannot mark someone as a high-priority lead versus a casual acquaintance. This is a missed opportunity. The app tracks the data but does not help you manage it effectively. You end up with a long list of names and timestamps, and you have to remember who each person was.

Save Contact now works — but the address book integration is still basic

The Save Contact feature is a step forward. Before this update, you could not save a GoTaps connection directly to your phone's address book. You had to copy the details manually or rely on the app's internal contact list. That was a major limitation for anyone who uses their phone's native contacts app as their primary address book. Now, with the Save Contact button, you can add a connection, lead, or scanned card straight to your phone's contacts. The app pulls the name, phone number, email, and company from the GO profile and creates a new contact entry. It is straightforward and works as intended.
