Opening the app: what actually happens

The first screen loads a list of historical figures. You pick one. The app throws a quiz at you almost immediately. No long intro, no tutorial that holds your hand. Just a question about that figure's life or work, and four possible answers. Get it right, and you earn orbs. Get it wrong, and you move on anyway. The app does not punish failure harshly, which is unusual for a quiz game. It pushes you forward either way.

This quick-entry design means you are inside the experience within seconds. There is no account creation wall, no mandatory profile setup. You pick a mentor, answer a few questions, and the AI companion starts reacting. The responses are not generic. They reference your answers, sometimes pushing back on a wrong choice with a historical correction. That correction is the core hook. It feels less like a test and more like a conversation with someone who actually lived through the events.

The downside shows up fast. The app does not tell you how many questions each mentor has. You answer four, five, six, and then it stops. No progress bar. No indicator of where you stand. This opacity creates a mild frustration. You are left guessing whether you finished the set or whether the app glitched. The changelog mentions "Perfectionism is meh" — a nod to this exact feeling. The developers know it is an issue, but they have not added a counter yet.

How the quiz system and rewards actually work together

Every correct answer gives you orbs. These orbs are the main currency. They do not just sit there. You spend them on premium avatars — different historical figures with unique visual designs. The more orbs you earn, the more avatars you unlock. This creates a loop: answer questions, earn orbs, buy avatars, and then use those avatars to answer more questions. The avatars do not change the gameplay, but they give you a reason to keep playing.

There is a catch. The quiz rewards are not flat. Hard quizzes pay out more orbs than easy ones. If you score four out of five on a hard quiz, you get a refund on the orbs you spent to enter it. This refund mechanic is unusual. Most quiz apps just give you a flat reward regardless of performance. Here, the refund acts as a safety net. It encourages you to try the harder content without risking all your currency. The changelog from July 2026 confirms this was a deliberate design choice: "Fairer quiz rewards: instant orbs, refunds when you score 4/5, and bigger rewards for Hard quizzes."

The problem emerges when you combine this with the avatar system. Some avatars cost a lot of orbs. If you spend all your orbs on an avatar, you cannot enter hard quizzes until you earn more. This forces you back to easy quizzes, which pay out fewer orbs. The loop slows down. You end up grinding easy content just to afford the entry fee for hard content. It is not a broken system, but it is a friction point that the refund mechanic only partially solves.

What the version history tells us about the developers' priorities

The version 1.0.1 update, released in June 2026, focused almost entirely on the reward economy and UI polish. The changelog lists fixes for orb balance glitches, quizzes showing as already completed on new accounts, and toggle settings that "don't lie anymore." These are not minor cosmetic tweaks. They are core gameplay fixes. The orb glitch meant players were losing currency they had earned. The quiz completion bug locked new users out of content. The toggle issue affected how settings were applied.

This update also introduced smoother animations and a fresh app icon. The UI polish suggests the developers are thinking about retention. A cleaner interface keeps users engaged longer. The new icon signals a rebrand or a refreshed identity. Combined with the bug fixes, this update feels like a stability pass rather than a feature drop. The developers are shoring up the foundation before adding more content.

One line in the changelog stands out: "Perfectionism is meh, orbs even after answering just 4 questions." This is a direct response to user behavior. People were obsessing over getting perfect scores. The developers added orbs as a consolation prize for near-perfect runs. It is a small change, but it shows they are watching how people actually play. They are adjusting the game to reduce frustration, not just adding random features.

The real friction point: premium avatars and the orb economy

Premium avatars are the main sink for orbs. They are cosmetic, but they are also the primary motivator for playing quizzes. Without them, the quiz loop has no endpoint. You would just answer questions and accumulate currency with nothing to spend it on. The avatars give you a goal. The problem is the cost. Some avatars require a large number of orbs. You can earn those orbs through quizzes, but the rate of earning is slow if you stick to easy content. Hard quizzes pay out more, but they also cost orbs to enter. This creates a paradox: you need orbs to earn orbs.

The refund mechanic for 4/5 scores helps, but it does not eliminate the grind. You still need to accumulate enough orbs to afford the entry fee for hard quizzes. If you fail a hard quiz, you lose the entry fee. That loss is painful because it sets you back. The app does not offer any way to earn orbs outside of quizzes. No daily login bonuses, no ad-watching options, no alternative revenue streams. You play quizzes, or you get nothing. This narrow design means the app lives or dies on the quality of its questions. If the questions are good, the grind feels worthwhile. If they are repetitive, the grind becomes a chore.
