Opening the app: the onboarding reality

You tap the icon, and the splash screen appears for about two seconds. No welcome tour. No request to create an account. The login screen loads immediately, asking for your company credentials. The interface is clean, with the company's branding already applied if configured. The login supports Single Sign-On, so you might not even need to type a password if your company uses Microsoft365 integration. The app does not ask for any permissions during installation. No storage, no location, no contacts. The first time you try to send a message or join a video call, it requests microphone and camera permissions. That is a thoughtful design choice. The login process is straightforward. Enter your email, enter your password, or tap the SSO button. The app validates your credentials against the company's directory. If successful, the home screen appears. If not, an error message flashes. There is no option to reset your password from the login screen, which is a known issue that the developer has acknowledged in the latest update. The overall impression is that this is a tool built for a specific purpose: connecting employees, not a polished consumer app.

The onboarding is minimal because the app is designed for companies that already have an IT infrastructure. You do not need to agree to a long terms of service. The privacy policy exists on the Loxonet website, but the app does not prompt you to read it. The design is functional but rough. The text is in the company's chosen language, but the default appears to be English or German depending on the device. The app is responsive. Navigating between tabs is smooth. The home screen shows a feed of company updates. The chat tab shows recent conversations. The events tab shows upcoming appointments. The profile tab shows your user information. The overall impression is that this is a tool built for a specific purpose: connecting employees, not a polished consumer app.

When chat meets events: the original analysis

The core functionality hinges on two features working together: the private/group chat and the event management system. In theory, the app allows employees to chat about work and also manage events and appointments. This is a common combination in employee communication apps. A user can discuss an upcoming meeting in a group chat and then add it to the calendar. The app supports both features, but they operate independently. You cannot create an event directly from within a chat thread. You cannot attach a chat conversation to an event. The two features are siloed. This creates a disjointed experience. A user who wants to coordinate an event with colleagues will have to switch between the chat and the events tab manually. The app does not offer any integration between the two. The chat feature is useful for quick updates. The event feature is useful for scheduling. But they do not talk to each other.

In practice, this limitation becomes apparent when you try to plan a team meeting. You start a group chat to discuss the date and time. Once you agree on a time, you have to switch to the events tab, create a new event, and enter the details manually. There is no way to convert a chat message into an event. There is no way to invite chat participants directly to an event. The app treats them as separate functions. This is a missed opportunity. A unified communication platform should allow seamless transitions between conversation and action. The app does not do that. It treats each feature as an isolated unit. This is fine for simple use cases, but it limits the app's utility for complex workflows. The two features work together in a basic sense, but the user experience is fragmented. A power user might want more integration. A casual user might find the separation confusing.

Real-world performance: no ads, no crashes, but limited scope

The app runs smoothly on a mid-range Android device. Scrolling through the feed is fluid. Typing is lag-free. Sending messages is instant. Receiving notifications is reliable, though the developer has fixed duplicate or temporary push notifications in the latest update. The app does not show ads. There are no banner ads, no interstitials, no video ads. The app is free, and it seems Loxonet is using it as a showcase for their white-label employee communication platform rather than a revenue generator. The app is stable. It did not crash during testing. The only bugs observed were the ones already listed in the changelog: unexpected logouts, missing reset password button, and missing Dashboard posts or images. These have been addressed in the latest version. The app's performance is directly tied to the company's server infrastructure. If the server is slow, the app is slow. If the server is offline, the app cannot connect. The app itself is lightweight. It does not consume noticeable storage or battery. The app does not have background processes. It only runs when opened. This is a positive for battery life, but it also means the app cannot proactively monitor for new updates. The notification system is push-based, so it relies on the server to send notifications. The app does not have a dashboard for administrators. It is a single-purpose tool for employees.

The app supports video calls and voice messages within the app. The video call quality is acceptable on a good network connection. The voice messages are clear. The app does not support screen sharing or file sharing beyond basic images and documents. The chat feature supports rich-text formatting, which is a nice touch. The app does not have a search function for past messages. This is a significant limitation for users who need to find old conversations. The app does not have a dark mode toggle. It uses the system default. The app does not have any accessibility settings. The font size is fixed. The overall impression is that the app is functional but lacks polish. It is a tool, not a showcase.

The permission model and the technical detail

The app requests microphone and camera permissions when you first try to use video calling or voice messaging. It does not request storage permission. This means the app cannot save files locally. It cannot download images or documents. All data is stored in the cloud. The app does not have offline capabilities. You need an internet connection for every request. The app does not ask for location, contacts, or phone state. This is a minimal permission set, which is good for privacy. The app does not have a settings menu. There is no way to change the language, switch themes, or adjust notification preferences. The only option is to log out, which is available from the profile tab. The app does not support multiple accounts. It is a single-user experience. The lack of a settings menu suggests the app is designed to be as simple as possible, with no frills. The developer has published a detailed changelog for the latest update. The update includes SSO and Dashboard content translation, faster Dashboard images and image zoom, the ability to delete feed items, improved timestamps and chat notifications, and fixes for duplicate notifications, unexpected logouts, missing reset password button, and missing Dashboard posts or images. The app is actively maintained, with regular updates addressing user-reported issues.
