Opening the App for the First Time

The moment you open ONTOUR after installing it, you are met with a clean interface that asks you to pick your favourite club. This is not a step you can skip. The app forces you to select at least one team before you can see any content. Once you pick a club, the home screen populates with that team's upcoming fixtures, recent results, and a list of other fans who have checked in to attend those matches. The design is minimal, with no distracting news feed or algorithm-driven clutter—just the matches, the scores, and the people who are actually going.

The onboarding flow is quick. You can sign up with an email or a phone number. The app does not ask for unnecessary permissions like location or contacts during setup. After you confirm your account, you land on the match feed. The first thing you notice is the "Attendance" tab next to each fixture. Tapping it shows a list of users who have checked in for that game. This is the core differentiator of ONTOUR: it is built around the idea that football is better with real people in the stands, not just with statistics on a screen.

How Stadium Check-In and Attendance Lists Work Together

Two features that seem separate at first—stadium check-in and the match attendance list—actually form a powerful feedback loop. When you attend a match in person, you can open ONTOUR and check in at the stadium. The app uses your device's location to verify that you are actually at the venue. Once you check in, your profile appears on the attendance list for that match. Other fans who are considering attending can see who else is going, which can influence their decision to show up. This turns a passive score-checking app into a social coordination tool for match-going fans.

There is a subtle friction point here. The check-in feature relies on GPS accuracy. If you are in a crowded stadium with poor signal, the app may struggle to confirm your location. Several users have reported that the check-in sometimes fails or takes too long, leaving them unable to appear on the attendance list. This is not a dealbreaker, but it does reduce the reliability of the feature. The app does not offer a manual override, so if the GPS fails, you are simply not counted. This creates a gap between the intention of the feature and its real-world execution.

Real-World Performance: Ads, Bugs, and Stability

Using ONTOUR over a week reveals a mixed performance profile. The app handles live score updates smoothly. The match feed refreshes without noticeable delay, and the lineups appear before kick-off as promised. However, the app does display ads. These appear as banners at the bottom of the screen and as occasional full-screen interstitials between sections. They are not as frequent as on some competing apps, but they do interrupt the flow when you are browsing match details.

Stability is a concern. The changelog for the latest version mentions a "big stability boost" with fixes for video, map, and startup crashes. This suggests that prior versions had significant issues. While the current version feels more stable, there are still occasional freezes when switching between the match feed and the chat room. The chat room itself loads quickly, but the keyboard input can lag on older devices. The app's memory usage has been reduced, according to the changelog, but it still consumes a noticeable amount of RAM when running in the background.

Permission Requests and What They Mean

During installation, ONTOUR requests access to storage, camera, and microphone. These are standard for a social app, but the storage permission is used more aggressively than on other platforms. The app saves every match photo and video you share locally, which can quickly fill up internal storage if you are an active user. The app does not offer an option to automatically delete old media files after a certain period. This means you have to manually clear the app's cache from the system settings. There is no built-in cache management tool, and the app does not warn you when storage is running low.
