The developer, Apex Timing, builds these companion apps for karting tracks across Europe — Cap Karting, Eastkart, Racing Kart JPR, and several others. They all share the same codebase. The feature list is identical across every single one. Profile management, virtual card, results, rankings, chronos, track info. This means Racing Kart du Mans is not a unique app. It is a white-label template customized with the track's name and logo. That matters because it shapes what the app can and cannot do. It does one job and it does it in the simplest possible way.

How the real-time chronos interacts with your session data

The chronos feature is the reason most people open this app. You start a session at the track, and the app records your lap times. Those times feed directly into the ranking system. After each session, you can see where you stand against every other driver who has used the app at that track. The ranking updates in real time as new times come in. This creates a live leaderboard that changes throughout the day. If you set a fast lap in the morning, you might drop to fifth place by the afternoon. The app does not show you a historical leaderboard — only the current one based on all recorded sessions.

Compare this to a dedicated timing app like Race Chrono or AIM Race Studio. Those apps connect to external GPS modules and provide detailed telemetry — lateral G-forces, braking points, sector times. Racing Kart du Mans does none of that. It uses the phone's internal GPS, which is accurate to about 3–5 meters under ideal conditions. That is enough for a rough lap time but not for serious analysis. The app does not pretend to be a professional tool. It is a social leaderboard for rental karters. The real differentiator is the virtual member card. You show the card on your phone at reception, and the staff scans it. That links your on-track performance to your profile automatically. No manual entry, no paperwork.

What actually happens when you try to use the chronos with a standard phone

The internal GPS on most Android phones drifts. Put the phone in a pocket or a mount, and the signal bounces around. The app records what it receives. That means your lap time might be off by half a second or more. Experienced users on karting forums have noted this issue across multiple Apex Timing apps. The solution is an external GPS module, which costs around €80–150. Plug that in, and the accuracy improves to sub-meter level. But the app does not tell you this. If the track is closed for maintenance or a private event, the app shows that. But the update frequency is not real-time. Staff have to log in to a web dashboard and change the status. On busy weekends, the dashboard might not get updated until the morning, so the app could show "available" when the track is fully booked. The virtual member card remains the most reliable feature because it does not depend on any external data — it is just a QR code generated from your profile.

The app's version history is sparse. CloudApks lists version 5.0.0 from December 2023. No changelog exists on the Play Store. The developer has not published what changed in that update. Given that the app is free and has no in-app purchases, there is little incentive for frequent updates. Apex Timing makes money from the tracks, not from the users. The tracks pay for the software as a service. The app is a loss leader — a free addition that makes the track's offering more attractive. That explains why the user experience is secondary to the track's operational needs. The app works well enough for what it is: a digital membership card with a basic timing feature. It is not a racing analyzer, not a training tool, and not a game. It is a utility for a specific location, and it shows every compromise that comes with that purpose.
