About Alfa TV

What happens when you open the media player

The splash screen appears for about three seconds. Then you see a blank interface with a single button: "Add Media." No channels. No playlists. No pre-loaded content. The app does nothing until you give it a file. This is the core reality of Alfa TV. It is a shell. A media player that expects you to bring your own videos, your own streams, your own links. The Play Store description is brutally honest about this: "Alfa TV Player does not provide any content. Users must upload or add their own media files to use the app." That is the entire pitch. No hidden libraries. No free movies. Just a player.

The interface is minimal. A dark background. A folder icon. A settings gear in the corner. The app supports Chromecast, which means you can throw your own content onto a television screen. It starts in portrait mode by default, which suggests the developer optimized it for phone use rather than tablet or TV. The Android version requires 5.0 or higher. The iOS version needs 12.0 or later. The app is free. No ads. No in-app purchases listed on the Play Store. But that clean description hides a messy reality. Across the internet, "Alfa TV" means something else entirely.

The IPTV shadow and the payment complaints

Search for Alfa TV in user forums and you find a different story. People are not talking about uploading their own videos. They are talking about IPTV subscriptions. One user on Sikayetvar wrote: "I paid 1000 TL for a 6-month Alfa IPTV package, but my membership was not activated." Another said: "Alfa IPTV payment was taken, but the 12-month package was not activated, and I cannot reach support." A third complained: "My account was closed without reason, communication blocked, and my money was not refunded." These are not isolated incidents. The complaint platform shows 119 complaints about Alfa IP TV. Users report streams freezing constantly, technical support ignoring them, and subscriptions vanishing without warning.

The disconnect is striking. The official app is a neutral media player. The unofficial ecosystem is a paid IPTV service with serious customer service problems. The app itself does not provide content. But somewhere in the chain, users are buying access to streams through Alfa-branded services. The complaints do not distinguish between the app and the service. For most users, Alfa TV is the whole package. The player. The streams. The subscription. When the streams freeze, they blame the app. When support ignores them, they blame the developer. The app becomes the face of a service it does not officially provide.

What the Kodi community says about Alfa

In the Kodi community, Alfa is known as an addon. Not a standalone player. A plugin that pulls movies, series, and live TV from various sources. One tech site describes it as "an addon for Kodi that stands out for having a wide catalog of content, ranging from movies and series to documentaries and children's content." Another says Alfa is "one of the best sources" for Kodi content, though the quality is inconsistent. Users on Lemmy note that Alfa is difficult for families to use. The interface is not intuitive. Searching for movies and series requires patience. One user said: "I installed Alfa for Kodi thinking it would be easier for my family to search for movies or series, but they just could not get used to it."

The addon version of Alfa is entirely separate from the Android and iOS apps. Different codebase. Different developers. Different purpose. The app is a media player. The addon is a content scraper. But they share a name, which creates confusion. A user searching for the APK might expect the addon's functionality inside the app. They will be disappointed. The app does not scrape. It does not find streams. It just plays files you already have. The addon does the scraping but runs inside Kodi, not as a standalone mobile app. The two products exist in parallel, serving different audiences with different needs.

The privacy permissions and the empty changelog

The app's privacy practices are unclear. The Play Store data safety section says the app does not collect any data. It does not share data with third parties. That is the official line. But the app requests permissions that seem excessive for a simple media player. A privacy report for a related app (com.shadeed.falcontvPro) shows permissions including ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE, DISABLE_KEYGUARD, FOREGROUND_SERVICE, WAKE_LOCK, and WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE. These permissions allow the app to prevent the device from sleeping, disable the screen lock, and run foreground services. For a player that just plays local files, these are unusual. The iOS version, developed by CDNTV Tecnologia LTDA, also claims not to collect data. But the Android version's permission set raises questions about what the app is actually doing in the background.

The developer has not published a changelog. The Play Store "What's New" section is empty. The iOS version shows only "Fixed some bugs." No detail about what changed. No explanation of why the app needs to wake the device or disable the keyguard. The lack of transparency extends to the version history. Users cannot see what was fixed or what broke. The app's version number on AppBrain is 4.3, updated April 15, 2026. The APK size is 34.51 MB. The iOS version is 43.5 MB. But without a changelog, these numbers mean nothing. The app could be stable. It could be broken. There is no way to know without installing it and testing the permissions yourself.
