About Autodukan - Car Spare Parts
What Happens the Second You Open It
Open the Autodukan app and the first thing you see is a search bar. No splash screen. No onboarding carousel. Just a text field with a prompt to enter your vehicle number or part name. Below it, a grid of categories: Engine Parts, Brakes, Filters, Lighting, and Accessories. The layout is functional but sparse. The app does not ask for location permissions immediately. It does not push notifications. It simply presents a catalog and waits. For a user who has never used an automotive e-commerce app before, this feels unfinished. For a mechanic or fleet manager who needs to order parts quickly, it is exactly what they want: no friction, no fluff, just parts.
The search bar is the central nervous system of the app. Type "brake pads" and the results appear within two seconds. Each listing shows the part name, brand, price, and a small thumbnail. Tapping a listing opens a detail page with a description, compatibility information, and an "Add to Cart" button. The checkout process asks for a delivery address and offers payment options. The entire flow from search to purchase takes less than a minute, provided the part is in stock. The app does not offer a guest checkout option. You must create an account or log in with Google. That extra step adds friction, but it also enables order tracking and history.
How the RTO Check and the Challan Feature Work Together
One of the more unusual features in this app is the RTO vehicle information tool. Enter a registration number and the app returns details like the owner's name, vehicle model, registration date, and fuel type. This is not a standard feature in spare parts apps. It sits alongside the shopping catalog as a separate tab. The challan information feature sits next to it. Enter the same registration number and the app shows any outstanding traffic fines or violations. These two features are not linked automatically. You have to check each one separately. But for a workshop owner, the workflow is clear: a customer brings in a car, you check the RTO details to verify ownership, then you check for challans to see if there are any outstanding fines that might affect the repair or insurance claim. The app does not connect these dots for you. It gives you the raw data and leaves the interpretation to you.
This separation is both a strength and a weakness. The strength is that each tool works independently and reliably. The RTO data comes from a government database, and the challan data comes from traffic authorities. The app acts as a wrapper around these sources. The weakness is that there is no unified dashboard that combines vehicle details, fines, and spare parts history. A user who wants to see everything about a vehicle has to jump between tabs. That is not a dealbreaker, but it is a missed opportunity for a more integrated experience. A competitor like boodmo focuses purely on parts. GoMechanic focuses on services. Autodukan tries to do both, plus the administrative tools, but does not fully integrate them.
The Real-World Performance: Speed, Ads, and Crashes
The app loads quickly on a mid-range Android device. The product catalog renders without noticeable lag. Search results appear within two to three seconds on a 4G connection. There are no banner ads or interstitial pop-ups during browsing. The only promotional content is a small banner at the bottom of the home screen advertising current offers. That is a relief compared to many free apps that bombard users with ads. The checkout process is smooth. Payment options include UPI, credit card, and net banking. The app does not ask for unnecessary permissions. It requests location only when you use the nearby services feature for washing centers or garages. That feels appropriate.
However, there is a persistent issue with the inventory status. The app shows parts as "in stock" but some users have reported that after placing an order, they receive a notification that the part is out of stock and will be shipped later. This is not a crash or a bug. It is a supply chain problem that the app inherits from the underlying platform. The live virtual inventory of 200,000 parts is updated daily, but daily updates are not real-time. A part that was available at 9 AM might be sold out by 2 PM. The app does not display a real-time stock count. It shows a simple "in stock" or "out of stock" badge. For a mechanic waiting for a critical part, that badge is not enough. They need to know if the part is actually available right now. The app does not provide that level of granularity.
Permissions and What They Actually Do
The app requests three permissions: location, storage, and phone. Location is used for the nearby services feature. Storage is used for caching product images and order receipts. Phone is used for device identification and to enable the RTO and challan features, which require a unique device ID to prevent misuse. The app does not read contacts or SMS. The privacy policy, accessible from the settings menu, states that no personal data is shared with third parties. However, the policy also says that data may be collected for analytics and improvement purposes. That is a standard clause, but it is worth noting that the app does not offer an option to opt out of analytics collection. The permission requests are straightforward, but the lack of a clear explanation in the app itself about why each permission is needed creates a small trust gap. A user who is not comfortable sharing their device ID might hesitate to use the RTO and challan features.
