Opening the app for the first time

When you first open Nafas Health, the app asks for location permissions right away. This is not optional if you want to see the outdoor air quality map. The app does not explain what a "good" or "bad" number means beyond the color coding — green for good, yellow for moderate, red for unhealthy. The app's value becomes clear the moment you compare indoor versus outdoor readings. That comparison is the core reason the app exists.

The Protection Factor is the first number that actually matters. It tells you how many times cleaner your indoor air is compared to the air outside. A Protection Factor of 2x means indoor air is twice as clean. A factor of 5x means five times cleaner. The app updates this number in real time as the AirTest monitor sends new data. Without an AirTest device, the Protection Factor does not appear. The app still shows outdoor air quality, but the indoor side stays blank. This creates a split experience — users with the hardware get the full picture, users without it get only half the story.

How the Healthy Home Score and Protection Factor work together

When outdoor pollution spikes — for example, during Jakarta's dry season when PM2.5 can exceed 100 µg/m³ — the Protection Factor drops if your indoor air does not improve. The app then suggests running Deep Clean Mode. Deep Clean runs the connected purifier at maximum power. The purifier clears the air faster. The Healthy Home Score climbs back up. The Protection Factor rises again. This cycle happens automatically if you have Autopilot enabled. Autopilot adjusts the purifier's speed based on real-time readings. The app does not explain this workflow clearly in the Play Store description. Users discover it by watching the numbers change throughout the day.

One limitation emerges when both indoor and outdoor air are polluted. The Protection Factor stays low because the indoor air is not cleaner than the outdoor air. The app cannot fix outdoor pollution. It can only tell you to close windows and run the purifier. Users in Jakarta have reported that during peak pollution hours, even with the purifier running, the Healthy Home Score struggles to stay above 70. The app's own data shows this limitation. The real-world performance and what actually breaks

The list is small. As of mid-2026, there are more than 10 locations in Jakarta, with new ones added monthly. The feature is useful but limited to Jakarta residents. Users have reported two persistent issues. The first is location-related. The app sometimes fails to follow a location after the user taps the heart icon to save it as a favorite. The app used to work correctly in earlier versions. The second issue is more serious. Some users cannot set a home location at all. The version 3.0.5 changelog states: "Your Nafas device is back to working normally. Control it from the app, see your data, and have peace of mind about the air in your home. One step on your side: log out and log back in so your data loads again." This changelog confirms that previous versions had a device connection issue. The fix requires users to log out and log back in. This is not a seamless update. It adds friction for users who expect automatic fixes.

The update also moved device control and the Healthy Home Score into the Clean Air Zone subscription. Autopilot, Schedule, and Deep Clean are now part of the same subscription. Users who do not subscribe lose access to automated controls. The app still shows real-time data, but the automation features are behind a paywall. The changelog mentions "sharper essentials: real-time PM2.5, a smoother air map, and smarter alerts." These improvements are visible. The map loads faster. Alerts appear sooner. PM2.5 readings are more responsive to changes in outdoor conditions.

The permission list for the app includes ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION, BLUETOOTH_SCAN, BLUETOOTH_CONNECT, and POST_NOTIFICATIONS. These permissions are necessary for the app to function with connected devices and to send alerts even when the app is not open. The app does not share data with third parties. Data is encrypted in transit. Users can request that their data be deleted. The privacy policy is available on the Nafas website.
