About Persona Wallet
The registration screen asks for an email and a password. No account from outside Persona's identity network works. The app does not let you browse or explore without creating an account. This is not a general-purpose wallet. It is a locked portal for managing verified identity information across Persona's ecosystem. The moment you tap "Create Account," you are committing to a verification flow that many users later find opaque.
Once logged in, the dashboard shows your verified PII. The "Add ID" button is prominent. Tapping it opens a list of document types: driver's license, passport, state ID, non-citizen travel document. You select one, and the app prompts you to take a photo of the document. After that, it asks for a selfie. The verification process runs in the background. The app does not show a progress bar. It does not tell you when the verification is complete. You simply see the document appear in your list. This flow is fast. But it only works if you have a valid government-issued ID and a stable internet connection.
How the reusable persona and passkey actually work together
The reusable persona is not a standalone feature. It stores your verified PII in an encrypted account. The passkey is the authentication method that unlocks it. When you verify your identity with one business that uses Persona, that verification is saved to your reusable persona. The next time you need to verify your identity with a different business, you do not re-upload your documents. You simply authenticate with your passkey. The app then shares your verified PII with that business. This is not explained on the Play Store page. The store description presents verification and reuse as separate bullet points. In practice, they converge into a single workflow for frictionless identity verification across multiple platforms.
However, the passkey feature has a catch. The app does not show any indication that the passkey authentication succeeded. Users have reported that the app "seems to work but with zero indication that it has." This creates a gap where a user might attempt to verify their identity with a third-party service, but the app does not confirm that the verification was successful. The user is left wondering if they need to try again.
What the changelog actually changed
The version history shows repeated "new features and performance improvements" without details. The one clear change is the addition of NFC scanning experience improvements. Another update fixed passkey fields before authenticating with the server. But the changelog does not mention the integration issues that users report. After some updates, the app fails to authenticate with third-party services like LinkedIn. Multiple reviews on the App Store describe this exact problem. The app becomes useless for its primary purpose until the user uninstalls and reinstalls, which resets the verification flow.
The technical detail that stops the workflow
The app requires location permission to verify your identity based on your region. If you deny location access, the verification process may fail. The permission is requested only once during initial setup. If you skip it, you cannot enable it later from within the app. You must go to your device settings, find Persona Wallet, and manually grant location permission. After that, the verification process completes. But the app does not refresh the verification status automatically. You have to close and reopen the app to see the updated status. This manual refresh is the final action you take before the app stops providing new information.
