Setup reality: what happens when you first open it

The game starts with a short tutorial. It shows you where to place your first tower. You build a basic gun, and the first wave of aliens comes. It is straightforward. But the second wave introduces healers. These enemies heal each other, and your basic towers cannot kill them fast enough. You lose. The game does not warn you about this. It just happens. You restart the level, and you start grinding for coins to upgrade your towers before the healers arrive. This is the setup reality.

The onboarding is minimal. There is no account creation, no email, no password. You pick a level, and you play. The game saves your progress locally. You can play offline, which is a big plus. But the lack of a proper tutorial means you learn by failing. The healers in wave two are a design choice that forces you to understand the upgrade system early. You cannot just place towers and hope for the best. You have to plan.

The interface is clean. You see your base health, your coin count, and your available towers. You tap an empty spot, and a menu pops up with tower options. You select one, and it builds. The game does not pause while you build, so you have to be quick. This adds pressure, but it also makes the game feel active. You are not just watching; you are reacting.

How coin drops and tower upgrades clash

The coin system is the core of the game. You earn coins by killing enemies and by selling towers. But the coin drops are inconsistent. Sometimes you get a lot, sometimes you get very little. This randomness affects everything. You cannot plan your upgrade path because you do not know how many coins you will have. You might save for a big upgrade, but if the coins do not drop, you are stuck with weak towers. This forces you to grind earlier levels to build up a coin reserve.

The tower upgrade system has multiple paths. Each tower can be upgraded several times, and each upgrade changes its stats. You can upgrade damage, range, or fire rate. But you need coins to do it. The base itself can also be upgraded, which increases its health and adds new abilities. The choice between upgrading towers or the base is strategic. But the coin randomness undermines that strategy. You cannot make a reliable plan because the resources are unpredictable. This is a fundamental design flaw.

Players have complained about this on Steam and in Play Store reviews. One review says: "The most annoying is the way coins don't drop in a consistent way. This means harder lucky win rate early in that level." Another says: "Gaining silver, the basic currency in this game has a bit randomness in it." The randomness is not a minor issue; it is a core mechanic that affects every decision you make. It turns a strategy game into a luck-based grind.

Real-world performance: ads, bugs, and what actually breaks

The game has no ads. That is rare for a free game. You can play without interruptions, which is a big selling point. But the game does have in-app purchases. You can buy gems to speed up upgrades. The prices range from $0.99 to $49.99. The game does not push these purchases on you. You can ignore them and still progress, but the grind is much slower.

Bugs are present. Some users report crashes on certain devices. Others report that the game does not save progress properly. The changelog says "We fixed some errors in this upgrade," but it does not specify which errors. This vagueness is frustrating. Players do not know if their specific issue has been addressed. The lack of detailed patch notes is a common complaint.

Performance is generally smooth. The game runs well on older devices. The graphics are decent, with a sci-fi aesthetic. The sound design is basic but functional. The game does not drain the battery excessively, and it does not heat up the phone. These are positives. But the bugs and the vague changelog are negatives that affect the overall experience.

The survival mode lock and what it means

Survival mode is locked until you complete the entire game. This is a design decision that has drawn criticism. Players want to try survival mode early, but they cannot. They have to grind through all 40 levels first. This is a barrier to entry. It also means that by the time you unlock survival mode, you are already burned out on the game. The survival mode itself is also problematic. It is too difficult, and the enemies become bullet sponges. Even with fully upgraded towers, you can still lose.
