Loading screen that never ends

The moment you tap the icon, the spinning wheel appears. For many users, that wheel stays there. A Google Play reviewer from 2018 described waiting through a "loading" screen that eventually shows "无法连接:124" – connection error 124. Connecting through a VPN helped, but even then, the wait stretched to 30 seconds. This is not a one-off complaint. Multiple Reddit threads echo the same pattern: the app demands a persistent internet connection, and when that connection falters, the game simply refuses to start. The irony is thick – a solitaire game, something that historically ran perfectly offline on Windows 95, now requires you to be online just to shuffle cards.

The connectivity requirement is baked into the reward system. Daily challenges, weekly events, and leaderboards all sync with Microsoft's servers. Without that sync, the app loses its core progression loop. Users who play on the go, or in areas with spotty coverage, find themselves locked out of the very features that make the collection feel modern. The "performance enhancements" mentioned in the latest changelog do not address this fundamental architecture. They tweak the tutorial and clear notification bugs, but the online-only skeleton remains untouched.

Five games, one persistent annoyance

Klondike, Spider, FreeCell, TriPeaks, and Pyramid. These five classics form the backbone of the collection. Each plays exactly as you remember – the cards slide, the stacks build, and the satisfying thud of a completed suit still feels right. The app does not mess with the formulas. It adds a layer of polish: smooth animations, clean card designs, and a selection of themes that range from the classic Windows 3.x look to modern minimalist styles. That retro theme, in particular, draws long-time fans who remember playing Solitaire on their first PC.

The daily challenges introduce variety. Each day brings five new puzzles with specific objectives – clear a pyramid in under two minutes, or complete a Spider game with only three suits. These challenges tie into the reward system. Completing them earns coins and XP, which feed into the weekly leaderboard. The competition is global, and the app shows you exactly where you rank. For players who enjoy that extra layer, the challenges provide a reason to return daily. But the ad breaks interrupt the flow. After every few moves, a video ad plays unless you subscribe to the Premium tier. The ad frequency is aggressive enough that some users on AppFollow describe it as "intrusive" and "ruining the experience."

What the changelog actually fixed

The latest update, as posted on the Play Store, promises three things: performance enhancements, an improved tutorial, and bug fixes for the notification system. The tutorial now walks new players through each game mode with clearer prompts. The notification system no longer spams you with redundant alerts about daily rewards. These are minor tweaks. The performance enhancements are vague – no specifics on what was optimized or which devices benefit. This matches a pattern across Microsoft's casual games: changelogs that say "performance improvements" without detailing the actual changes. Users on Reddit have noted that the loading time issue persists even after this update, suggesting the "enhancements" might be cosmetic rather than structural.

One area that did see real change is the ad placement. The update adjusted when ads appear, reducing the frequency immediately after a game ends. However, the ads still interrupt during gameplay – a pop-up for a match-3 game or a video for Microsoft Bubble appears between rounds. The Premium subscription removes these entirely, but at a monthly cost. For the free tier, the ad experience remains a central friction point. The changelog does not mention ads, which is telling. The developer's silence on this front suggests the ad model is here to stay.

When landscape mode matters

Portrait mode is the default. The cards are small, the text is cramped, and on a phone, the game feels like it was designed for a tablet. A reviewer named 冯鍇昊 pointed this out in 2024: "竖屏模式字太小,一般情况下根本看不见" – in portrait mode, the text is so small that you cannot see it. They requested a built-in landscape toggle, because their phone's auto-rotation is unreliable. The app does not offer this. You are forced to rely on the system's rotation sensor. If that sensor is faulty, or if you prefer to play while lying down, the screen flips unexpectedly. The reviewer resorted to "乱点" – tapping randomly – to complete moves, because the cards were too small to read. This is not a niche complaint. Multiple forum posts echo the same frustration. The app includes a settings menu, but landscape mode is absent from it. The developer has not addressed this in any recent changelog. The only workaround is to disable auto-rotation system-wide, which is a crude fix for what should be a simple toggle. The app's interface, otherwise polished, stumbles on this basic usability point.
