Graveyard Management Meets Idle Progression

You open the app and the first thing you see is a plot of land with headstones. There is no grand intro sequence. The Valkyrie stands there, and the game immediately tells you to start collecting relics. This is not a game that holds your hand. The tutorial is brief, and within minutes you are tapping on enemies, watching your Einherjar warriors auto-attack, and collecting gold that piles up even when you close the app. The graveyard is your base. You build graves, you assign relics to create new warriors, and you send them off to Valhalla. That loop is the entire engine of the game.

What makes this different from other idle RPGs is the physical space of the graveyard. You are not just managing a spreadsheet of numbers. You are looking at a cemetery that grows as you play. Each grave you build produces a warrior. Each warrior you send to Valhalla gives you a permanent boost. The game forces you to decide: do you expand the graveyard to produce more fighters, or do you invest in Valhalla upgrades to make the ones you already have stronger? That tension is present from the first hour and it does not go away.

How the Einherjar Loop Actually Works

You collect relics from fallen enemies. These relics are not just currency. They are the raw material for creating Einherjar. Each relic has a type and a quality. You drag it to an empty grave, and a warrior emerges. That warrior has stats based on the relic you used. Better relics produce stronger warriors. But here is the catch: the graveyard has limited space. You can only have so many graves active at once. So you are constantly recycling. You dismiss weaker warriors, you free up grave slots, and you use the relics from the dismissed ones to upgrade the remaining ones. The Resummon feature, added in version 1.0.21, lets you call back a warrior you sent to Valhalla, but it costs resources. That cost is steep enough that you think twice before using it.

This creates a natural friction. You want to send every warrior to Valhalla because that gives you global bonuses. But sending them means you lose a grave slot. You have to balance the short-term loss of a fighter against the long-term gain of a permanent upgrade. The game does not explain this balance well. You figure it out by failing. You send too many warriors to Valhalla, and your graveyard becomes empty, and you cannot farm enough relics to rebuild your army. Then you are stuck waiting for offline gold to accumulate so you can buy more relics from the shop. That waiting period is where the idle part of the game really shows its teeth.

Comparing the Valhalla System to Other Idle RPGs

Most idle RPGs have a prestige system. You reset your progress, you get a currency, and you buy permanent upgrades. Valkyrie of Graves does something similar with Valhalla, but it ties the prestige currency directly to your graveyard production. In games like "Almost a Hero" or "Tap Titans," prestige is a button you press. Here, it is a physical act of sending a warrior away. That act costs you a grave slot, which means your immediate farming capacity drops. It is a more punishing system, but it also feels more intentional. You are not just resetting for the sake of resetting. You are making a tactical decision about which warriors are worth sacrificing for long-term power.

The addition of the God "Hel" in the latest update adds another layer. Hel is a new deity that you can unlock, and she provides bonuses specifically to the graveyard. She increases the speed at which graves produce warriors. That is a direct counter to the bottleneck created by the Valhalla system. If you have Hel, you can afford to send more warriors to Valhalla because your graveyard will replenish faster. This is the kind of synergy that the game is built around. It is not just about grinding numbers. It is about understanding the flow of resources from relics to graves to warriors to Valhalla and back again.

Technical Quirks and the Resummon Feature

The Resummon feature is a good example of how the developer thinks about friction. It costs 500 gold to resummon a warrior. That is not a trivial amount in the early game. You might earn 100 gold per minute from idle income. So resummoning costs you five minutes of waiting. That is enough to make you careful. You do not resummon lightly. You only do it when you realize you made a mistake and sent a warrior that you actually needed for a specific dungeon. The game does not have an undo button. It has a paid redo. That is a design choice that respects the player's time but also punishes carelessness.

The limited shop is another recent addition. It appears at certain intervals and offers items that are not available in the regular store. These items are often relics of higher quality or pets that you cannot find elsewhere. The shop uses a separate currency, which you earn by completing special challenges. This creates a secondary loop that runs parallel to the main graveyard loop. You are not just farming relics. You are also farming challenge points to buy limited items. The two systems interact because the limited items often boost your graveyard production, which in turn helps you farm more relics. The game is a series of interconnected loops, and breaking any one of them slows down the entire machine.
